The gap we're addressing.
Roughly 7.1 million UK adults live with tinnitus, and most receive no structured NHS treatment beyond a leaflet — there is no commissioned digital therapeutic pathway. Existing apps are paywalled, app-store gatekept, or focused on a single technique. People who can't afford private audiology are left with nothing between diagnosis and self-management.

What's actually novel.
HushOS is a browser-native, free-forever PWA that combines research-grade pitch matching, notched audio therapy, masking, neuromodulation soundscapes, sleep programmes, hearing self-check and a CBT module — in one platform with daily check-in and a trend graph.
- Web Audio pitch-match — calibrate the user's tinnitus tone in the browser, no clinician hardware.
- Notch therapy applied to the user's own music, filtering a band around the matched frequency.

Live at hushos.vercel.app. Free-for-all (no paywall). Built for NIHR / Innovate UK Biomedical Catalyst evidence pack. The product is live and self-funded; the role of grant capital is to add the rigour, cohort study and independent review that a self-funded team cannot deliver alone.
How the system works.
HushOS is a Web-Audio digital self-care platform. Each module is independently researched and self-contained, sharing only the user's pitch-match calibration and check-in log. No audio leaves the device.
Calibrate
User pitch-matches their tinnitus via two-tone comparison; frequency stored locally.
Generate
Web Audio oscillators + biquad notch filters synthesise masking, notched and neuromod tracks live on-device.
Coach
CBT module delivers a structured, evidence-aligned cognitive routine for tinnitus distress.
Track
Daily check-in captures loudness, distress and sleep tags; client-side trend graph; nothing leaves the device without opt-in.

Independent audiology review, alignment of CBT module against BTA-endorsed material, accessibility audit, and a structured feedback round with 100 self-reported tinnitus users.
12-week observational study with NHS audiology service partner. Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI) measured pre/post. Methodology paper and v2 of the protocol.
Powered controlled study across 3 audiology sites. Regulatory engagement (UKCA / NICE Evidence Standards Framework). Public dataset (consenting cohort) for the research community.
